Guidelines

These guidelines are meant only as a starting point for escape rooms and may not fulfill local code requirements.

Site Safety

  • posted fire plan
  • fire extinguishers are accessible
  • low voltage electrical safety standards followed
  • fire alarms present
  • first aid kit for guests and staff

Game Safety

  • no one should be physically locked inside of a room
  • magnetic locks should have push to exit safety buttons
  • wires should not be exposed
  • no sharp corners or exposed screws
  • no dangerous objects without protections in place
  • lasers should be low power and placed out of eyesight
  • strobe lighting: the flash rate must be kept at or below 4 flashes per second
  • game elements should not encourage unsafe actions
  • electrical sockets should not be accessible
  • experiences should be actively monitored by staff

COVID-19

  • face mask requirements should follow all local rules and ordinances
  • escape rooms are sanitized based on CDC best-practices

Customer Service

  • clear and posted cancellation and refund policy
  • clear and posted guest requirements (e.g. guests must be sober)
